Sale Policies
Our Philosophy
At Vann Goats, we strive to match every animal with the right home. We would love to speak with you about your goals and desires to decide on animals best fit for your herd. Transparency is important to us and we will give advice based on the strengths and weaknesses of our goats.
By placing a deposit or completing a purchase, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to all terms in this Sales Policy. This policy protects our goats, our buyers, and the integrity of our breeding program.
Deposits & Payment Terms
A non-refundable deposit of %50 of the total purchase price is required to hold any animal. No animal will be held, reserved, or removed from the availability list without a deposit.
- Deposits are non-refundable if the buyer backs out for any reason, including change of circumstances, change of mind, or failure to pick up within the agreed timeframe.
- If Vann Goats is unable to fulfill the sale (death of animal, serious illness, or animal retained by breeder), the deposit will be refunded in full or transferred to another available animal at the buyer's preference.
- Deposits may be transferred to an available animal of equal or lesser value at our discretion.
- Accepted payment methods: Venmo, Zelle, PayPal Friends & Family, cash
Horned Kids: If a buyer requests that a kid be left horned and not disbudded, the full purchase price must be paid at the time of deposit. No exceptions will be made to this policy.
The remaining balance is due in full at time of pickup. Animals will not be released without payment in full. We do not offer payment plans.
Pricing
All animals sold by Vann Goats are ADGA registered or registerable unless otherwise disclosed in writing at time of sale.
- Registered/registerable does and bucks: $400+
- Companion/pet quality (wethers or animals with minor faults): $150
Discounts offered for purchasing multiples:
- $50 off registered goats
- $25 off pet quality goats
Prices are set at the time of deposit and will not change after a deposit is placed.
ADGA Registration & Transfer
All animals sold as registered are enrolled with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA). The following applies to all registrations:
- Registration papers will be transferred into the buyer's name through ADGA upon receipt of final payment.
- ADGA transfer fees are the buyer's responsibility unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- DNA testing for bucks is the buyer’s responsibility.
- Papers will be submitted for transfer within 30 days of final payment. Processing timelines are set by ADGA and are outside our control.
- Buyers wishing to register offspring, show, or participate in milk test must maintain their own active ADGA membership.
- Animals sold as companion/pet quality or on a Non-Breeding Agreement (NBA) will have this clearly stated at time of sale. These animals may not be bred. Violation of an NBA voids all guarantees and may result in legal action.
Health Guarantee & Vet Checks
All animals leave Vann Goats in good health to the best of our knowledge. Prior to sale, each animal has been:
- Examined and deemed healthy at time of sale
- CDT vaccinated per our herd schedule
- Disbudded (unless otherwise disclosed in writing prior to sale)
- Treated for internal and external parasites per our herd protocol
- Weaned, or sold with written feeding instructions if still in process
Vann Goats offers a 48-hour health guarantee from the time of pickup or delivery. If your animal becomes ill within this window:
- Contact us immediately.
- A licensed veterinarian examination is required. All vet costs are the buyer's responsibility.
- Written documentation from the veterinarian must be submitted to Vann Goats.
- If a pre-existing condition is confirmed that could not reasonably have been detected at the time of sale, we will work toward a fair resolution — which may include a partial credit, replacement animal, or refund at our sole discretion.
The health guarantee does not cover illness or injury caused by transport stress, improper husbandry, nutritional deficiency, failure to quarantine, or exposure to disease at the buyer's property.
All new animals must be quarantined from your existing herd for a minimum of 30 days.
Failure to quarantine voids the health guarantee entirely. This is standard practice recommended by all major goat health organizations.
Congenital Defect Guarantee
Vann Goats offers a 2-year congenital defect guarantee from the date of sale on all registered animals only. Pet/companion quality animals do not carry a congenital defect guarantee.
Covered congenital defects for registered animals include:
- Carpal hyperextension
- Teat defects
- Freemartin
- Hermaphroditism
- Cryptorchidism
- Wry face
If a licensed veterinarian diagnoses one of the above conditions within 2 years of purchase, and that defect was not disclosed at time of sale, Vann Goats will offer a replacement animal of the same gender and comparable value upon receipt of a written veterinary diagnosis and clear photographic documentation of the defect. Refunds are not offered under this guarantee.
- Due to biosecurity protocols, Vann Goats does not accept animals back onto our property unless otherwise explicitly agreed upon in writing prior to the return.
- If a replacement is agreed upon, the buyer must surrender all ADGA registration papers for the affected animal before a replacement will be provided.
- This guarantee applies only to the original buyer and is non-transferable.
- Transportation costs for any animals involved in a replacement are the buyer's responsibility.
- This guarantee does not apply to any conditions caused or worsened by management, environment, nutrition, or trauma after leaving our farm.
- Minor cosmetic variations that do not affect the animal's health, breeding soundness, or dairy function are not considered congenital defects for the purpose of this guarantee.
Congenital Myotonia (CM) Status
No animal sold by Vann Goats will be CM/CM status. We are happy to inform buyers whether a specific pairing is guaranteed to produce N/N offspring or whether N/CM offspring are possible. For pairings where N/CM results are possible, genetic testing is available at the buyer's request and expense prior to or after purchase.
Pickup & Shipping
Farm Visits: All visits are by appointment only. As a biosecurity measure, we ask that you have not visited another farm or livestock facility within 24 hours of your visit. Please wear clean footwear.
Pickup Deadlines
- Animals must be picked up within 14 days of the agreed pickup date.
- Animals held beyond 14 days may be subject to a boarding fee of $5 per day.
- If an animal is not picked up within 30 days of the agreed date without prior arrangement, the deposit and any payments made are forfeited and the animal will be relisted.
- Please arrive with a secure, appropriate carrier or vehicle. We will not load an animal into an unsafe transport situation.
Shipping: Vann Goats does not ship animals via commercial carriers. Ground transport through a reputable third-party livestock transport service may be arranged at the buyer's expense. Once an animal leaves our property, Vann Goats is not responsible for its welfare during transit. Veterinary CVI is available at the buyer’s request and expense (required if shipping).
Buyer Requirements & Herd Standards
We care deeply about where our animals land. All buyers must agree to the following as a condition of purchase:
- Companionship: Goats are herd animals and must have at least one compatible companion at all times. We do not sell to homes where an animal will be kept alone.
- Housing & Care: Buyer agrees to provide safe, appropriate shelter, secure fencing, fresh water, quality forage and feed, loose minerals, and routine veterinary care.
- Veterinary Access: Buyer agrees to work with a licensed veterinarian for health concerns. We are always happy to advise, but we are not a substitute for professional veterinary care.
- Non-Breeding Agreement Compliance: Animals sold on an NBA or as wethers may not be bred. Violation of this agreement voids all guarantees.
Vann Goats reserves the right to refuse a sale to any individual at any time for any reason.
Agreement
By placing a deposit or completing a purchase from Vann Goats, the buyer acknowledges they have read this Sales Policy in full and agree to all terms herein. All agreements are in writing. This policy supersedes any verbal understandings.
All sales are final once an animal leaves our property in good health and all terms have been fulfilled.
